A case for revisiting traditional tools

In our digital-first culture, it’s easy to forget about the multisensory impact of printed communications. They can be perceived as outdated, overpriced, or unsustainable. But it’s not that simple: the carbon footprint of paper can be a misleading deal breaker because the energy consumption of digital media isn’t as obvious. 

We believe all types of organizations can benefit from revisiting print as part of a strong strategy.

We recently worked with the President’s office at The University of Chicago to design a book for their Board of Trustees. Equal parts annual report and strategic roadmap, we aimed to break through the monotony of zooming, scrolling, tapping, and typing in order to truly connect with these key internal stakeholders.

Senior Designer Tom Tian took the lead on the project, pushing the boundaries of the university’s brand system to create a premium, perfect-bound book and elevated brand experience. From the custom folder to the multi-level embossing, it leaves a powerful impression. We partnered with our longtime print collaborator Graphic Arts Services to ensure that the piece was executed to our shared standards of excellence.
