Founded by feminists in 1990, then the Lesbian Community Cancer Project, was created to make the medical establishment more sensitive and responsive to women, specifically lesbians, and to help women make more informed decisions about their care. Today, after mergering with Howard Brown, the program, now called the Lesbian Community Care Project, is still focused on their original needs, but has extended their work to research, programming and education on lesbian topics and an array of mental health services, including quit smoking groups.
