Some key functionality that we are adding to one of our current projects, The Queerist, is the ability to determine a users location via their IP address. This allows us to display content specific to the users location (events and bars, in this case) on the homepage of the site without requiring the user to enter any information. Having this ability opens a lot of possibilities for the web, but it requires a bit of help on your part.
The most promising method of achieving the IP location lookup is via hostIP.info, but the database is incomplete. If you have a moment, you can visit the website http://www.hostip.info/ and see if your location is correct and if not, change it. The open web thanks you.
