So this is my first post on our new Blog here at Firebelly, and I must say, it's pretty exciting. As a web developer, it's not very often that I am making a site that I will also be using and contributing to on a regular basis. More often I am on the other side, in that I know every little piece that makes something work, yet hardly ever have the experience of actually using the thing - like a seasoned mechanic that never drives. So, that being said, I want to talk about some of my favorites blogs, from the user perspective, and why I think they are compelling to me (and hopefully to you too).
Viget Labs blog - Viget is a design/development agency in Virginia. They actually have 4 separate blogs for each "sector" of their trade. My favorites are inspire, the design blog, and extend, the development blog. Viget bloggers are very open about sharing tips and tricks they discover while working on their various projects. I get a lot of useful info and appreciate the openness they have even when talking about things like their design/development process, when other agencies tend to protect that stuff like it's a holy grail.
Ajaxian - Ajaxian takes the place of my morning newspaper. It's a collection of each days recent releases, trends and news in the world of client side development. It keeps me up to date in my field and occasionally entertains with posts like the SEO rapper.
WebDesigner Wall - This is a great personal blog run by a fellow named Nick La. I ran into Nick's old portfolio site 3 years ago when I was first getting into web design and he blew me away back then and he has only gotten better. He's one of those unique left brain/right-brain individuals with great creative sense and a programmer's logic.
No Impact Man - A NYC business man who has decided to relinquish his modern day luxuries in order to neutralize his net effect on atmospheric carbon. Most people say they care about "doing what they can" to help the current environmental quandary; well, here are some practical tips and motivation to inspire you to make some changes and help.
