My dad installed this cut-off valve in every bathroom in our house. It basically allows you to easily pause the water flow during your shower. The water stays warm because you're not turning off the faucets; it's just stopping the flow. You connect it to the pipe in between the wall and your shower head.
He gave me a valve as a present a few years back and I was happy to carry on the legacy. I talked to my landlord quick and he was happy to oblige the installation. No need for me to mess with the pipes, especially since I'm presenting the chance to decrease his monthly water bill.
We should all make this (or solutions like it) a standard in our lives and our landlords and landladies should jump on the bus with us!
